Based upon the 1968 story, ‘Iron Man,’ by the British poet laureate Ted Hughes set in 1957 during a period of the Cold War characterized by escalation in tension between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. It is the story of a nine-year-old boy named Hogarth Hughes who makes friends with a giant alien robot from outer space. The Iron Giant is built to be a gigantic mobile weapon sent to destroy Earth, but is damaged on arrival and loses his memory. Hogarth, who is an outcast at school, is excited to have a real friend. However, a paranoid U.S. Government agent named Kent Mansley arrives in town and he is determined to destroy the giant at all costs. It’s up to Hogarth to protect him by keeping him safe in a junkyard. A series of events leads to a confrontation between the Iron Giant and the U.S. Army during which the overzealous Kent Mansley launches a nuclear missile. Can the Iron Giant overcome his violent origins and save the town along with his newfound humanity?
Featuring the voices of Jennifer Aniston, Harry Connick Jr. and Vin Diesel as The Iron Giant.
